When humidity reaches an unbearable degree, it’s impossible to focus and get work done. Sure, we love sunny and hot summers, but nobody will say no to replacing a muggy day with ocean breeze and sand between your toes.
Every year, the Long Island Railroad puts together great packages for New Yorkers in desperate need of a break from the heavy urban air. LIRR Beach Getaways 2018 run from June 23 to September 3, 2018 and leave from Penn Station. If you’re staying at the Royalton New York Hotel, why not take a day off from Manhattan and, instead, relax by the Atlantic Ocean?
The ultimate destination for a day trip is Long Beach. It’s one of the closest and most beautiful beaches on Long Island. A day here will be full of rolling waves, surfing and sunbathing. Take in the sights by walking along the boardwalk and stopping for a refreshment along the seasonal food trucks. If you prefer a sit-down meal, the best option is Atlantica Restaurant: seafood, cocktails and stunning views, all in one place.

Long Beach’s neighbor is piece of land stretching for 6.5 miles. Six miles of sand, waves and nature. Jones Beach is also famous for its summer concert series at the Jones Beach Theater. Although the LIRR getaways don’t cater to concert schedules, there’s plenty to do there. Swimming, fishing, crabbing, golfing, running, biking and birdwatching are popular activities.

The LIRR stops at Ocean Beach and Kismet, two Fire Island town with unique character. For a city feel, head to Ocean Beach where you’ll find restaurants, cultural events, entertainment and lots of shopping. Kismet, is a laid-back version of Ocean Beach with the added bonus of admission to the Fire Island lighthouse.
