Chestnuts roasting on an open fire… But we think they forgot to mention the heartwarming cocktails by the stove. Mmmm! Christmas is the perfect excuse to guzzle down cocktails that you can't find at any other time of the year. Plus, they are often warm, creamy or sugary, perfect for holding winter at bay. Here are five delicious seasonal cocktails and where to find them in NYC.
Location: Aquavit, 65 East 55th Street, New York, NY 10022
First created by the Swedish, Glögg is similar to mulled wine. However, glögg has a “kick” that is normally added and stewed with raisins, cinnamon and cardamom up to a week before. Who could make a better version than Aquavit? One of the only world-class modern Nordic restaurant in the country.
Location: The Up & Up, 116 MacDougal Street, New York, NY 10012
Do you remember the chocolate drinks we used to have? The ones that could be served hot or cold depending on your mood? Well, The Up & Up have developed their own adult version. Still drank hot or cold but with a touch of rye and rum, creating a pleasantly subtle richness.
Location: Rolfs, 281 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10010
What is Christmas without eggnog, spiked eggnog? Rolf’s German restaurant has taken it a step further so that you can drink your traditional cocktail among some outrageously decorative furnishings.
Location: Ophelia Lounge NYC, 3 Mitchell Pl 26th Floor, New York, NY 10017
This delicious cocktail really conjures up images of sitting with your hands in front of the fireplace. Sadly, they don’t have a fireplace, but they do have a “snowglobe in the sky” theme. Think lots of sparkles and snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. They even drape sheepskin throws over the furniture. Lush!
Location: Tipsy Parson, 156 9th Ave, New York, NY 10011
If you are craving a stomach-warming drink large enough to wrap your hands around to fend off the cold, this is it. Tipsy Parson have created a homely comfortable atmosphere in which to enjoy this hearty drink. Cinnamon Anglaise, butter, Sailor Jerry spiced rum, two different sugars and freshly grated nutmeg create the ultimate winter drink.
